Would you like to grow up feeling lonely and empty, unable to ask for help? Well, that is only one of the many bad effects of China's one-child policy. The one-child policy restricts anyone in China to having one child per couple. So, was limiting each couple to one child a good idea? No, China's one-child policy was a bad idea because it harms mental health, the fertility rate was already low, and there are not enough people in certain aspects of life.

The one-child policy causes bad mental health for children and parents. One adult that had to grow up under the policy said, "I used to cut myself on my wrist after being yelled at by mom and dad because I didn't know who I should talk to or turn to," (Document F).
