College is difficult According to the article "How to Improve Graduation Rate at Community Colleges" by Time Magazine, Just 20 percent of full-time students seeking a degree earned one within three years. This statistic is shocking because this is a very low rate for graduates in community colleges. I am attending community college this year, and I hope to earn my degree within two years. Although college is difficult, I will be successful by seeking advice from experts and by developing some effective study strategies. College is difficult. When I am in class, I have to focus intensely. If I do not, I will be lost in a second. Sometimes, I also get upset when people do not understand me. For example, when I asked my math professor about using my personal email to access my math lab he couldn’t understand me. Even when I repeated my question three times, he still looked extremely confused, which completely demoralized me. Luckily, math does not require as much English, and I am good at it. Otherwise, I do not know if I could continue this course. Another challenge is time management because I have to spend more time on my English, so that I can keep up my courses. Also, just as many others, I have a job too. Usually, when I finish my classes during the day, I need to hurry to work without lunch or a break. After that, housework and school work are waiting for me. I always feel there isn't enough time to deal with all the responsibilities. Dr. Yvonne is an American doctor, musician and author, best known for her memoir, The Ditchdigger’s Daughter. She taught us about finding the “fast rabbit”. When you first get your test back always look around to find the “fast rabbit”. If that person is better than you watch them and learn from them. When they ask the teacher a question you should also think of a question to ask the teacher as well. When they study you join them and can take some of their study habits as your own to improve your studying until you get better and study more. Also, Stephen Covey offers advice about Success from a story of a rare bamboo plant. He teaches us that being successful is not just a one day thing. We need to learn from bamboo by making our base stronger. Then we can go to the very top. Another individual National Trainer Sharon Bowman, who teaches lessons about learning teaches about the four levels of learning “knowing what you don't known. Knowing what you known. Learning what you don’t know. Learning what you learn." By using the teachings of these various individuals I can use their lessons to improve
