Our language arts class read the novel Of Mice and Men this semester. I would like to share with you what I learned about it.
This is a story about two men, named George and Lennie, and is set during the Great Depression. They are about to start working at a ranch in California and have previously worked at other ranches. Lennie has mild retardation and is a very large, strong man. George is a smaller man who takes care of Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble. The men dream of owning a small farm together and want to live the “American dream”. This dream is destroyed when Lennie accidentally kills the boss’s son’s wife. George ends up shooting Lennie so the angry mob doesn’t kill him first.
