Distracted driving has affected my life in various ways. The first being that a few years ago, my sister ran away from our trailer park home in the evening, which led my mother to drive distracted looking for her while she was on the phone with a family member. I decided to go with her so she would have an extra pair of eyes. After around an hour of driving, she was pulled over by the police because she was on the phone with a family member. A year later, she was charged with a D.U.I, for she had taken prescribed pain medicine earlier that day. She was put on probation and her driver's license was withdrawn. Apps that disable texting while driving can furthermore be beneficial, as most of the time, people tend to compulsively grab their phone when they hear the sound of a notification. The study shows that notifications can trigger emotional responses like fear or surprise, which can make it hard to resist checking for new content. For us to have such easy access to our phones, it’s difficult not to pick it up and see where the notification is from, especially if you’re hoping that the notification is from the person you look forward to hearing from the most, whether it be for business reasons or not.
