1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued? Diversity is having a good mix of everything in a situation. Being diverse is valuable to most because the fact that all cultures, races, ethnicities have something valuable to offer. Diversity allows us to be surrounded by people who can give us a different insight on matters that we may not even think of.
2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society? Ethnocentrism is the act of judging another group or culture by your group or culture’s own standards. Ethnocentrism is inevitable for some people because when a person believes something it is usually a strong belief. Ethnocentrism can be detrimental to society if a person extends a positive belief of his/her culture to someone of a different race or culture. An act like this could contribute to tearing down racial barriers.
3. Define emigration and immigration. Emigration occurs when a group of people leave one country and settles in another country. The land that is settled is usually previously undiscovered or land that has not been developed. Immigrations occurs when a person or group of people leave a country with the intent of moving into another country and staying there permanently.
