People frequently ask the question, “Why don’t they just enter the country the legal way.” You see, it isn’t as easy as come through the border, file some paperwork and you're automatically a US citizen. There are many complications and obstacles to get though. To live permanently or just temporarily, there are three ways: employment, family reunification, or humanitarian protection. Foreign workers must have a job already lined-up and an employer that can sponsor them, to come to the US for employment purposes. Family members can petition to bring foreign-born family members here to the US. But, the petitioning family must be above the poverty line and commit to supporting the family member(s) the want to bring to the country. To be considered a refugee and be given asylum, you must be proven by many US agencies that you have a “well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, membership in a particular social group, political opinion, or national origin.” It’s not based on your poverty level or your living conditions. We must realize, that all things we see aren’t that black and white. Because if you do not meet all the standards to becoming a real US citizen, you may be forced to enter the country illegally to provide a better life for you and/or your
