Elementary Classroom Observation

General Observation: Today I entered the school at seven-thirty and went to the main office. As I approached the desk, the secretary asked which teacher I was going to be interning for, and she asked to look at my student ID. Then she asked me to sign-in and showed me the whereabouts of the classroom. My teacher, Mrs. K., was not there yet so I sat in a chair outside the room to wait for her. As I looked up, I noticed one of my teachers from the past and gave her a hug. She asked me to see her third-grade classroom. She explained the process she took to organize her room and get it the way she wanted over the past few years. Then she went to check her mail and I returned to the seat outside of Mrs. K.’s door. Three minutes later Mrs. K. arrived and introduced herself. We discussed a few of my questions and she explained the schedule for the day. K’s room, the students put their outside clothes on and prepared for recess. Today was Mrs. K’s turn to oversee the children during recess. I accompanied her and watched as children were playing on the icy playground. Every day the principal watches all of the students during each recess session to decrease bad behavior. When recess was over, Mrs. K. and I followed the principal through one of the back doors into the school while the other students entered through a different part of the school to the cafeteria. I asked the principal a few questions and then returned to Mrs. K’s room. Then I noticed that Mrs. K. had some tasks to do during her brief period of short time so I decided to go adventuring around the school. I spent some time looking at all of the [students’ work that was placed along the walls.
