The wage gap between men and women of equal jobs is closing, but is still far too large. In 2011, the ratio of men to women median weekly yearly-earning was 82.2 percent, which was a record high (Hegewisch). Yet ideally, this ratio should be close to 100 percent. Yet due to sexism, women are payed less than their male counterparts. This can be for a variety of reasons, including taking advantage of women and offering them less money when offering a job based on the assumption that the women will not ask for more pay. Yet women should not be offered less pay just to benefit her superior who then gets to pay her less for doing the same amount of work as her counterparts.
