Most of the people who perished in the fire were immigrant women and immigrant girls who did not really care about the working conditions the just really wanted a new life and they would do anything to get it. When Frances Perkins the commision investigator arrived at the horrible accident the people started to jump because they lost hope and realized that there was no way to survive in that type of situation. Frances Perkins had been the commision investigator for a while but in 1933 she was named Secretary of Labor by Franklin Roosevelt. “The dreadful sound of death hit the ground as smoke poured from the ten-story building”, this is a statement from the article, The History Engine. Bystanders of the building just stood there and watched the painful deaths of people in front of them and they did nothing to try and help the poor souls. The women in this situation had no help and no idea of how to escape the situation that they were trapped in because all they had on their minds were ideas of how to escape. There was one girl who was stuck by the window and her hair was on fire and she finally fell to her death because no one could help the poor
