According to the evaluation, Tyler’s reading level has been declining since kindergarten. He was given the Terra Nova CTBS which tests for reading comprehension and vocabulary. This test is administered every year at the beginning of the year since kindergarten. During kindergarten Tyler’s vocabulary and comprehension have increased. However, from kindergarten to first grade Tyler’s level of comprehension dropped from 14% to 4% and his level of vocabulary dropped from 36% to 1%. Tyler is lacking in vocabulary and comprehension based on the CBTS tests and may require further intervention.

RTI- response to intervention consists of three levels of intervention, these levels are called tiers. In the first level of intervention students receive the typical intervention received from the classroom teacher. In the second level of intervention students receive intervention in group settings usually within the classroom setting with differentiated instruction. Tier 3 leveled intervention consists of intervention within or out of the classroom in a small group or one-on-one with specialized instruction. Title-1 services are usually provided in group settings and generally take place within the classroom setting. These services include differentiated instruction within the groups provided by a Title-1 teacher. Tyler requires specialized instruction to combat his disability’s and catch up with his grade level.
