College is daunting. The future after college is even more daunting. For many students, the idea of college coincides with student debt and the worry about finding a job. Luckily, it’s never too early to start networking. During college, students are surrounded by many opportunities to build and maintain a professional network whether it’s through their academic major department, clubs, or the community. A decent network is a solid foundation to a student’s career.

Colleges want students to succeed, so they offer many chances to build and maintain relationships to the faculty, professors, and businesses. Career centers are built to help students get employed. They can help students get in touch with alumni who are often very willing to help out students. Alumni enjoy providing assistance to students by sharing information about their career, company, or organization. Alumni are also able to provide up-to-date information and advice about career paths and industry. They can also give referrals to other professionals in their field. In addition, colleges often host career fairs as well. Students should take the chance and go to them.
