Genghis Khan- A Biographical Sketch Genghis Khan (meaning “Universal Ruler”) is possibly the most famous political leader in all of Mongol history. He was able to bring all of the Mongol tribes together from Mongolia, their homeland. From there, they expanded their empire throughout eastern and middle Asia. As known to current history, the Mongol Empire was bigger than any other yet to be created. When he was born in 1162, Genghis Khan was given the name “Temujin”. Before he was even 10, Genghis Khan’s father was poisoned by one of the enemy clans. Not long after, he was cast out of the tribe; along with his siblings and his mother. The tribe didn’t want to waste food feeding them. Not much later were they cast out of the tribe that Temujin killed his older brother in order to be the head of the household (History.com Staff, Genghis Khan, History.com). A little later, he married to a woman by the name of “Borte”, with whom he had four sons and many daughters. Borte was kidnapped. Temujin went on a rescue mission to find her. In doing so, he built a reputation for himself, and he made allies (History.com …show more content…
He was a very smart military strategist, and this was just one of his many brilliant military tactics. Because of his spies, he knew not only about his enemy’s motivations and culture, but he was able to steal their technology and use it against them. (Biography.com Editors, Genghis Khan Biography, Biography.com). Genghis Khan had an army of about 80,000 men. And though sometimes outnumbered, the Mongols were able to prevail. [Every soldier had a bow with arrows, a knife or a sword, a shield, and a lasso. The cavalry (i.e., the men on horses) had body armor, and carried a hook-like pole in order to pull their rivals off of their horses.
