Getting Into College

Getting into college is a far more complicated thing to do than it used to be. Being accepted into a college and going requires a lot; such as, a high GPA, straight A's, lots of extracurriculars, community service, test scores, anything to impress the school and money! There are many things to think through before you choose your college for the next 2-8 years of your life. Clark has a big decision to make here and it will take lots of thought. Throughout all our years in elementary to high school we are constantly told how important it is to get into a good college and how much effort that will take. As Clark begins to make a decision many features of psychology will start to appear.

One of many psychological terms is availability heuristic. Availability heuristic is the natural or immediate example that comes to mind when you hear something and helps you come to a decision sooner. Availability heuristic is a great help when it comes to choosing a school. When we think of schools to apply to our mind comes up with a list of colleges based off of what we have heard about, where we have toured, the most popular ones or where a family member may have attended. From this list in your mind of good schools you could end up going to, your mind applies that to the thoughts you have on what qualities you want from each school and narrows down your list which helps your deciding process.

Compliance is the act of doing something because someone told you to or someone expects it from you. For example, Clark may work extra hard to have a higher GPA, join more extracurriculars, do more community service, or get a job all because some colleges may expect those things/ think higher of you if there is a higher percentage of it.
