Groupthink, Power, and Leadership Styles Everyone will be part of a team or an organization at least once in their life, but the groupthink, power, and leadership styles are constantly differing among each group. Being an athlete for fifteen years, I have experienced every type of power, as well as many different leadership styles. Because of this, I sought to look deeper into one of the organizations on campus to get further insight on the groupthink, power, and leadership styles from members of the group. After conducting research and analyzing the data, it was found that the leadership styles that are used in this organization by the coach and the team captains were a combination of informal leadership and task leadership, and the types of power used by the coach were both expert power and reward power. Among the kinds of leadership and the types of power, it was found that groupthink was also a substantive issue with regard to this organization. After each interview was conducted, I transcribed the seven interviews to help find common themes and answers among some, or all of the athletes more easily. Since some participants were nervous as I was a stranger to them, they tended to be more closed and not share much information. As we continued conversing about things that interested them, and I probed them with additional questions to help them more easily answer my main question, they began to further open up more. Others mentioned they were scared it would get back to their coach, but after giving reassurance that their identities would not be shared, and the interview recordings as well as the transcription would be deleted, they were more open to sharing further
