Argument Essay Draft In the halls and classrooms of every school, the rising threat of gun violence spreads fear through every student and staff member as they go about their day. Parents should not have to worry about their children’s safety after they kiss them goodbye and send them off to school, trusting that the school does its part to secure and protect the student body. Schools should be places where students feel safe as they learn and thrive in a stress-free environment, without fear of losing their lives or the lives of their classmates or teachers. As a high school student, I could not imagine what I would do if I experienced a tragic, life-threatening event at my school and then carried on with my life without fear of it happening again. As a high school student myself, the thought of experiencing a traumatic event like a school shooting is unimaginable, with possible long-term consequences for mental health and overall welfare. Therefore, it is necessary for schools to prioritize effective safety measures and create a nurturing atmosphere where students feel protected and supported. By embracing strategies such as universal background checks, refraining from arming teachers, and investing in the presence of dedicated professionals like school resource officers, we can fortify our schools as areas of safety and promote an environment where every student can flourish without the shadow of violence and fear looming
