Some would claim that gun violence acts as self-defense and does not occur often. More than 120 people are killed by gun violence per day, and more than double that number being shot per day, gun violence is no joke. With every year counting, gun violence becomes more common. Gun violence causes many problems and is often harmful.

Gun violence at schools is at an all-time high and continues on the rise. There have already been 18 gun violence cases at schools this year, as of April 18th. In 2023, officers were forced to kill over 1200 people, due to the risk of a suspect with a weapon. Over 79,000 officers were assaulted in 2023, with around 100 of those interactions leading to death. On Sunday, April 14, 2024, Officer Michael Jensen and Lieutenant Michel Hoosock, of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office were struck by gunshots on a search attempting to locate a suspect who led a major vehicle pursuit earlier that night. After fleeing from a previous traffic stop, officers located the suspect's vehicle and called for assistance. Officers quickly discovered there were multiple firearms inside of the vehicle that was parked in the suspect's driveway, during this search officers heard a firearm inside being controlled by the suspect. When setting up a perimeter around the suspect's home, the suspect emerged from the home and opened fire on Lieutenant Hoosock, who was in the backyard at the time, fatally wounding Hoosock. The suspect began approaching the front of the house where he would begin a shootout, striking Officer Jensen fatally. As a result of the shootout, the suspect was also fatally struck by one of the officers. On Monday, April 29, 2024, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks, Investigator Alden Elliot, and Investigator Sal Poloche, who were serving a warrant in East Charlotte, were fatally shot. Marshal Weeks, Poloche, and Elliot were scheduled to serve a felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The suspect then rushed them with a high-powered rifle and engaged in a gun battle. Deputy U. S. Marshal Weeks, Investigator Poloche, and Investigator Elliot were all pronounced dead at the scene.
