Halloween is an internationally recognized holiday that is celebrated on the last day of October annually. The holiday has adapted with time and tradition and has managed to stick around for at least 2,000 years. But where in the world did Halloween originate?

There has been a lot of debate about the origin country of Halloween, because Halloween didn’t just appear in a region, it appeared in a culture. Halloween first appeared 2,000 years ago with the Celtic people. The Celts were a cultural group that date back to the 7th century BC. In Ancient Rome, they were called Galli, and in Ancient Greece they were called Keltoi, both names roughly translating to barbarians. The Celts were a cultural group that spread throughout Europe during much of the 3rd and 5th century BC. They eventually settled in the northern parts of Europe.
Is believed that the Celts that brought the tradition of Halloween to light, were settled in Ireland, Northern France, and possibly Scotland. They believed that a good harvest was intended to be celebrated. Samhain was celebrated as a New Year’s Eve festival every October 31st. For the Celts this time signified the end of a successful year and the beginning of the winter. Samhain derives its name from the Celtic Lord of the Dead. This holiday was intended to celebrate the harvest, but to also pay respect to the dead. The Druids, Celtic priests, believed that by participating in Samhain, the Gods would grant them premonitions of the upcoming winter, so that they could better assess how to keep as many people alive as possible.
