Healthier Lunches In Public Schools

Whilst encouraging water consumption and limiting sugared drinks, schools must also give children sufficient time to eat lunch. According to Doctor Heather Harrell of the University of Louisville, the school lunch period in her district is twenty minutes long. Twenty minutes for a water break, restroom visit, walk to the lunch room, waiting in line for lunch, and eating. Dr. Harrell states that by the time children sat down for lunch, they were left with only ten minutes to finish their meals before being rushed out of the lunch area for the next lunch period. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident, many public schools throughout the country follow the same guidelines for school lunch periods.
