Unemployment has harmed many families in the past years, especially because of COVID-19; many businesses have had to cut employees' hours. This leads to not being able to pay the bills and eventually lose their housing. Homelessness brings an increase in crime and people not feeling safe in our community, but mostly being caused by the increase of homeless people carrying weapons. This impacts our community's ability to provide healthcare and increases crime and safety. This does not only impact the present, but the future of our community. Homelessness is a big problem, mostly in Los Angeles, because there has been an increase of 9% in the past year. In the San Gabriel Valley, the homeless population increased by 7.5% from 2020-2023. Many of the homeless people in the San Gabriel Valley have worked and lived in the community. They had been taking 70% of their income from their housing and ended up kicking them over to the corner. However, the percentage of homeless had increased due to the average wage decline and average annual rent increase.
