Teachers should be able to read and teach about historical events to their students, even if they're graphic. Students must learn about true history, even the events people want to forget about. George Santayna wrote “those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat it”. Post reading “I Remember Night: Remembering Elie Wiesel” I learned how Clemintine Wamariya (author) found her voice through reading Night. I hope to instill the thought of how reading Night could change the way we view hate throughout the world.

Why do you think that is? Maybe because they’re so far away from Germany they didn’t know of the mass destruction genocide caused, or maybe because of their poor education system they simply didn’t learn about it. But this proves that George Santaynas quote is correct. Not learning about history can cause others to repeat it. Some of the people who immigrated to the U.S. from Africa even thought genocide only happened to them, when Wamariya finally read about the holocaust, she said that she had “found a language that expressed how I had been feeling for years.” Wamariya said that reading NIght in eighth grade changed her life, it could change ours
