Under my leadership, SFA’s Core Curriculum Assessment Committee developed a general education core curriculum assessment process that involves the administration of nationally normed tests, authentic assessment through the evaluation of student work using rubrics adapted by teams of SFA faculty from the AAC&U VALUE Rubrics, and student opinion surveys. My successful service as chief officer of the faculty senates at two universities and state president of a faculty organization will be a valuable asset in this position. Working with other members of the THECB’s Formula Funding Advisory Committee, I contributed significantly to recommendations for the first comprehensive revision of Texas higher education funding Texas in more than forty years. As a member of the THECB’s Undergraduate Education Advisory Committee I worked closely with other committee members to shape a major overhaul of the Texas Core Curriculum. LEAP Texas is a coalition of more than 60 Texas public and private higher education institutions that seeks to provide a strong educational foundation for an increasingly diverse student body. LEAP Texas is also an official partner of the Association of American Colleges and Universities’ national LEAP Initiative. Through the efforts of LEAP Texas, Texas was recently named as one of five states that will participate in a $1,200,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation. The grant will be used to develop
