Would you consider all the activities in the Olympics now to be a sport? Some of the activities in the Olympics do not fit all the criteria of being a sport. For example, some people could argue that activities such as sailing, track and field, and shooting are not sports because they do not fit all the criteria to be considered as a sport. Cheerleading is an activity that has been argued whether it is a sport or not for years. Three defining criteria of a sport are: physical activity against an opponent that requires practice or training to gain knowledge and skill, working cooperatively with others in order to come up with a unique strategy to defeat an opponent, and it has to be an activity in which there are a set of guidelines and a winner can be declared, therefore cheerleading is a sport.

One of the biggest reasons that people might argue why cheerleading is not a sport is that they might think cheerleading has no defense, referring to the ability to stop the other team from scoring, to fit in the category as a sport. These people are stating that there is nothing one team could do in order to stop the other team from winning.
