Does The Internet's Good Effects Outweighs The Bad Ones.

The internet is one of the most important tools or things that we use on a daily basis. Nowadays, most of our lives rely on the internet because of what it is being used in. Some governments are using the internet in order to make it easier for their citizens to vote or apply for services. Also a lot of companies now run their businesses from overseas, which is saving them time and money. People now can contact to each other faster and easier than before. Internet had made our lives easier than before, but easier does not mean better. There has been a debate about whether if the internet is more useful than it is harmful. It is good to know how we are being affected

According to Carr in his essay "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" (2008), the internet has both good and bad effects, but it is yet unknown if the good effects outweighs the bad ones. The essay mainly talks about how the internet is affecting us nowadays, and whether it is a good or a bad invention. Carr's point of his essay is that the internet is more harmful than it is useful, and he supports that with providing several studies and essays to prove his point of view. He first starts with mentioning a scene from a the movie "A Space Odyssey" (2001), where he introduce the way he feels toward the internet, and how the internet is changing the way he and other people as well brains act toward new information, and he supports that with some examples that he provided later on. He gave a fact that the internet is impacting our attention span and our concentration abilities. Most of us can agree that the internet can easily affect our ability to pay attention since that it is considered as one of the best distracting things, where someone can spend several hours a day just surfing the web, playing games, watching videos, and many other things to do. Thus, I do agree with Carr in this point. On the other hand, we cannot deny that as much as that the internet in considered a distraction tool, it is also considered a useful tool than can be used to learn and explore new things, so yet whether the internet is harmful or useful depends on the way it is being used. Also he applied a type of reading to the people who read from the internet, which involves skimming without processing the information that we read, which is impacting our abilities to read something long and be able to focus during the reading process. In this point I disagree with Carr because I believe that it is a matter of personal preference. Maybe I prefer to reading from the net because of the easy access to the information, rather reading from a book or a paper, which usually cost more and sometimes hard to carry.
