When he joined the MLB he did not know if he could hold back, saying “All my life I had believed in payback, retaliation, the most luxurious possession, the richest treasure anyone has is his personal dignity. I had a question, and it was the age old one of whether to sell your birthright. Can I turn the other cheek? I didn’t know how I would do it, yet I knew that I must!” It was a struggle for Jackie to join and not fight back. But he was an outstanding player and inspirational man to all races around the world. Sadly, on October 24, 1972. 16 years after retirement he died due to a heart attack and diabetic problems with his last words to Rachel being “I love you”. He loved his fans and the impact he had on the world, just like Jesus loves us. His death saddened the world but also strengthened people to stand up and fight for what is morally right. He influenced and helped push people to fight for the better, no matter what triumphs and struggles they go through.
