As I walked to the batter's box I told myself “Just stay calm and advance that runner,” “Go back to where you came from,” A few members of the crowd yelled. “Don't let them get in your head Jackie. You can do this,” the team manager yells “I'm good,” I responded, “why do they hate me because of my skin,” I ask myself. “Go back to Africa,” more spectators continue to yell. I drown it out just long enough to concentrate on the ball and then the pitches come in and I make good contact and get on base “Good job Jackie that will shut them up,” My manager exclaimed The hate continued throughout that game and following games for the next year or so. Those early years really taught me a lot about how to stay calm and composed throughout tough situations. I believe everyone has an impact, big or small. If you follow what inspires you will do something impactful and you will make a difference. I see everyone as equal no matter their skin, gender, age or beliefs and I made my impact by just playing baseball which means you can make an impact too and continue ridding the world of racism and hate towards
