Hume Lake is a scenic and peaceful lake, surrounded by huge Redwood trees and everything is so calming, you never want to leave. The saying “take a picture, it’ll last longer” never sat quite well with me because sometimes seeing something so magnificent is captured better with eyes. Hume is where all the teenagers go to get away for a week hoping that church camp will change their lives. Usually I come back from Hume all hyped up on the fun games, the deep talks, and one-on-one time with Jesus, thinking that when I come back everything would be different, but in reality once I get home everything goes back to normal. This happened to me almost every time I went to church camp, except this one summer when my whole life changed.
It was a beautiful and hot day, when my friends and I decided to hike up the rocky and slippery creek to get to the top where the waterfall is. It was a long trek up the waterfall and there was a huge group of us just laughing and having a blast being together and swimming, we were all so thankful we get to spend a week each year in this magical place. It took us an hour or two to swim through all the rocks to get to the peak and we spent our day swimming around basking in the sunlight. Just us girls decided to head back early, the rocks were much more slippery going down because the current is so strong. As I was crossing the current to get to land I slipped and fell, the rushing waters crashed me into rocks and I couldn’t grab on to anything and I had no idea what I could do. I was always
