When thinking of what type of leader I remind myself of how I dealt with Airman while I was a shift lead. Having upwards of three Airman under me at any time without any formal training on how to handle them I often did what I thought was right. With the training I have received up to this point I clearly see while I handled certain situations as the right type of leader I often did not express the attitude of a leader. When an Airman was confused to a situation and was too new to understand anything going on around them I would properly use the Management by Exception-Active leadership style. Work Ethic was an entirely different story though, as I meet the criteria for a transformational leader. While I may not have held others to the standards I always aimed to strive far above standards provided to me. I constantly nurtured the Airman under me, focusing on the idea that due to our minimal manning that they need to be able to perform as well as I do if I ever wanted to take leave. The Airman understood that I always kept two way communication open and addressed concerns they brought to me. I kept them thinking, providing them with challenging tasks that could still complete and learn from. When Airman complained about task we do I was always capable of breaking work down into the big picture, allowing them to understand the impact they had. While I do display many traits of a transformational leader my failures as a leader place me at most a transactional leader, using the Management by Exception-Active style, until I can prove myself wrong in an operational
