Mr. Sousa also directed the Marine Band and the President's own Band which played at presidential inaugurations and other state occasions. He directed his own civilian marching band known as the Sousa Band later in his career.
In modern America, most colleges and high schools have a marching band. They play at their schools sporting events and compete against other marching bands. They form many shapes on the field while playing their school theme. There are also bands like the DCI bands which compete and play popular music competing against other bands. Marching bands are an important part of American culture and represent our loyalty to our country.
College and high school bands play football games. Some of the most famous songs that colleges have played are Gangnam Style by Ohio University, Call Me Maybe by the University of California, and Spiderwebs by Iowa State. One of my favorite marching band performances is the video game theme by Ohio State. In that spectacular performance they played music and formed symbols from many classic games and it was very enjoyable for someone who has played and enjoyed those
