One example of a mass shooting is the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. On December 14, 2012, perpetrator Adam Lanza went on a mass shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School using a firearm he took from his mother's house shortly after killing her, too. Lanza was mentally ill and brutally took away twenty-eight innocent people, including twenty young children with futures still ahead of them. After his murderous attack, Lanza took his weapon and ended his own life. Many parents and friends were left to mourn their lost ones, and many children will forever be scarred (Vogel). Another instance of a mass shooting is the tragedy in Orlando, Florida. In the popular LGBT nightclub, Pulse, a mass shooting rampage took place on June 12, 2016. Omar Mir Seddique Mateen carelessly murdered forty-nine people with a legally owned assault-style rifle and a handgun. This instance of gun violence has been deemed the “deadliest mass shooting” in the United States (Zambelich). An example of another tragic shooting is the Virginia Tech Massacre. In April of 2007, a gunman committed one of the deadliest shootings in history. This shooting left thirty-three victims dead and twenty others with injuries. The shooting started out with the gunman, Cho Seung-Hui fighting with two people. Later that day, Seung-Hui placed chains on the doors of the classrooms and began to fire his weapons away. After his chaotic rampage, Cho Seung-Hui committed suicide by shooting himself (“Virginia Tech: America’s”). The friends and families of these victims are urging the government to enact tighter gun control laws to prevent tragedies like these from happening again and keeping weapons of mass destruction out of harm's
