Good afternoon jury, my name is Isabelle Dulude and Mayella Ewell stands accused of lying under oath, which is also known as perjury. Ms. Mayella has used her only way to get out of this situation, which is lying. She thought lying was the only way to get out of her situation. My theory about why she committed this crime was that Mayella Ewell didn’t want to get beat by her father, Mr. Ewell, if she told the truth. Mayella Ewell proposed that she be raped and beaten by Mr. Robinson on the night of November 21st, after asking him to come inside and help her with the door and get the nickel he earned from breaking up the chifferobe. The second piece of evidence is “‘I mean, is he good to you, is he easy to get along with?” “He is tollable, ‘cept when-” “Except when?” Mayella looked at her father, who was sitting with his chair tipped against the railing. He sat straight and waited for her to answer. “Except when nothing.” Said Mayella. “I said he does tollable’” (Lee 208-209). The third piece of evidence is “‘When he’s riled, has he ever beaten you?” Mayella looked around, down at the court reporter, up at the judge. “Answer the question, Miss Mayella,” said Judge Taylor. “My paw’s never touched a hair o’ my head in my life,” she declared. “He never touched me’” (Lee 209). The fourth piece of evidence is “Didn’t you ever ask him to come inside the fence before?” She was prepared. “I did not, I certainly did not.” “One did not enough.” Said Atticus
