When it comes to maintaining a large army, most of us will agree that it will lead to spending a huge amount of money that no one wants to pay. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the the question of whether or not we should always have a military on hand or not. Whereas some are convinced that we should always have the military all the time, others maintain that we shouldn’t spend all the extra money to pay all that kind of money on something that may never be used. Although avoiding armed conflicts may lead to spending more money than they would like, having a twenty-four seven military would lead us to a much safer country. They must do their job, do it right the first time and do it in a timely manner. They are continuously setting priorities, meeting schedules and accomplishing their missions. Pressure and stress are built into this, but service members are taught how to deal with all these factors in a positive and effective manner. He told me three things about the war that most people don’t even know. First, he told me that in the beginning, the military was barely a thing. If they would have never started the military, the U.S. would be in a world of hurt because we would have had no way to fight in the previous wars, and then there is no telling if the U.S. would even exist anymore. Also, he was telling me that Washington had to remind the congress to even create the military, and without him telling them to create the military, we would again, have no way to fight or protect ourselves when the wars happened. Lastly, he told me that one of the bloodiest wars was the Civil War. The unprecedented violence of battles such as Shiloh, Antietam, Stones River, and Gettysburg shocked citizens and international observers alike.
