In 1889, Jane Addams was able to launch the Hull House in Chicago. Because of this remarkable establishment, a social movement was created aimed to assisting individuals (Capella, 2017). Years later in 1908, a man by the name of Clifford Beers went on record to describe his experience as a mental hospital patient. After, publishing his work Beers wanted to make a difference in the way mental health patients were treated. In doing so, he created the National Committee for Mental Hygiene (current time: Mental Health America) (2017). In 1925, the first counselor certifications were presented. In 1942, Carl Rogers released Counseling and Psychotherapy; the book highlighted the responsibility the client has pertaining to their growth and change (2017). In 1963, mental health centers were established under the Community Mental Health Centers Act (2017). Finally, in 1976 the American Mental Health Counselor Association was established and passed a law requiring a licensure of professional counseling (2017). The role and function for the MFTs focuses around his family and his marriage. Paul is not the only one suffering from his behavior, because his wife and family are worried about him this can cause a division and panic among his love ones. It is the job of the MFT to sit and talk to the family both individually and as a unit to see how this is effecting them and what must be done to better the situation/situations. The MFT may also recommend that just Paul and his wife come in for marriage counseling to help build their bond back after spending so much time
