My Band Leader

One phrase that my band director always uses is "If work we must do, then work we must do". This is a phrase that I have truly taken to heart and tried to replicate every day of my life. By working hard and becoming a better leader throughout high school, I have performed music for the community multiple times, earned volunteer jobs that cleaned up public facilities like churches and baseball parks, and even persuaded friends and family to do the same. By giving to the community in very public places, It fuels the passion and drive for others to go out and give back. In my school I have had multiple opportunities for peer leading. I have led a woodwind large group to State Solo and Ensemble, a jazz quartet to play on the radio, and became Drum Major for the Kelso High School Marching Band for the past two years. These experiences were very fun and rewarding as well as challenging. It helped boost the programs in my school and help create awareness for music and its benefits. Performing with our Marching Band at football games was a great example of how passion can fuel spirit and create a positive environment. To me, authority is the power to help other people, not the power to rule other people. I've tried to exemplify this with my friends and family. It is a long and tiresome process of gaining trust and respect but also giving it. With trust and respect in relationships, it brings me and my friends closer together while also benefiting each of us whenever we have problems. I've helped my friends and family with ways to become better leaders by using authority. I hope that the positivity and attitude that I present myself with gives them an optimistic view and a reason to become a better
