Imagine you're a sixteen year old student, you're excited that you have finally gotten your driver's license and then your driver's license gets taken away because you had nine unexcused absences in your english class or you failed all those classes you ditched. This is because of the ‘No Pass No Drive’ policy soon to hit California. The ‘No Pass No Drive’ law is a law that is effective if you're a student under eighteen and either have nine unexcused absences or you failed four or more classes. This law can take away your driver's licenses if you meet some of this criteria. There has been a debate if this law should be passed in California or not. I believe that California should not pass this law for two main reasons, one reason is that this policy does not help struggling students. The problem about this policy is that it doesn’t incentivize learning, sure it helps get the students in the door and to not be absent but if there goal is to help increase academic strength this is not the way. Yael Kidron, a senior researcher for the National High School Center said that “Experts would agree that some students may need a little push for their motivation, but a large part of the picture is helping them out.
