Knowing students had the skills to create 3 sentences taking the next step of teaching them how to develop a topic sentence. When teaching the topic sentence, I first began with whole class instruction with an outline of what components should be in a topic sentence. During whole class discussion, students were engaged in conversation on how to create a topic sentence based on the given information from the given topic. With the whole class, the students and I organized the information to create a topic sentence. To assess student knowledge of creating a topic sentence I changed the word organization and read the new sentence out loud to get an informal assessment of how students were creating a topic sentence that made sense. Taking notice some students were having challenges, students sat with a classroom paraprofessional to give them the additional support to help them create a topic sentence. Some students worked with a partner or were able to work independently to create their topic sentence. Measuring the student development on how to create a topic sentence was challenging for some students but multiple exposure for a couple of days did help students give a more sense of
