The nurse must be ready for positive or negative patient feelings. The nurse needs to understand that psychological and emotional thoughts may not always be conducive. The nurse should be able to recognize healing as an inner journey and encourage that patient to tell stories as a way to grasp understanding. Nurses have the gift prayer and spiritual expressions when appropriate.
6. Use creative scientific problem-solving methods for caring decision making.
The nursing process is similar to the research process because it has to be systematic and organized. Nurses can use themselves to create a healing environment. This could include intentionality, touch, and voice. The nurse should encourage patient to ask questions and explore several different ways to answer them.
7. Share teaching and learning that addresses the individual needs and comprehension styles.
This factor separates caring from curing. This allows the patient to be informed and shifts responsibility of wellness and health to the patient. The nurse teaches the patient to provide self-care, determine personal needs, and provide opportunities for personal growth. Jackson I would asses him with a holistic approach. When considering Mr. Jackson’s physical state, I can see that he is alert and oriented, however his extremities are cool to the touch and his skin color is dusty. He seems to be short of breath. His blood pressure is high as well. Erci et al. (2003) found that using Watson’s caring model increase quality of life for the patient and plays a role in decreasing blood pressure. I would explain my observations to Mr. Jackson and ask him how he feels. It is my goal to develop a trusting relationship starting with Mr. Jackson’s physical concerns so that I can learn more about his mental, emotional, and spiritual
