1.1 Describe how requirements of legislation, codes of practice and agreed ways of working influence and structure professional supervision requirements in adult care. Codes of practice, legislation and agreed ways of working are put in place in view of ensuring that all relevant personnel in health and social care understand the basic expectations and responsibilities attached to their role. They serve as a guide or framework for good practice and help to ensure that people working together do so effectively and safely. Legislation: The Care Act 2014 and Social Care Act 2008 clearly place a general duty on local authorities to promote the well-being of individuals when carrying out care and support which includes safeguarding adults (2014) Codes of Practice: This sets out the essential requirements of how staff should behave at work. It guides them to help them provide safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led care. Agreed Ways of Working: These are usually detailed in client care plans. It ensures that one is working within the law whilst providing care and support that is person centred. Failure to adhere to agreed ways of working may result in harming yourself or others without meaning to. These requirements shape professional supervision in adult care by: 1. It defines supervision, responsibility and accountability 2. It sets relevant standards for supervision frequency and content.
