Fast Food Is Slowly Killing You

One out of four Americans eat fast food every day. Americans spend more than approximately $100 billion on fast food alone. This amount of money could end world hunger completely. Yet most people know that fast food is harmful for them, so why do they keep eating it? According to www.aytm.com “67% of people say they eat fast food because it’s convienient and the other 33% say it’s cheap.” People should educate themselves on what is really in the fast food they eat and the harm fast food can do to your body by eating it.

Obesity is associated with an increase in respiratory problems. Obesity may cause spurts of shortness of breath or wheezing with little exertion. It can even play a role in the development of sleep apnea, a condition in which sleep is continually disrupted by shallow breathing and asthma. A recent study published in the journal Thorax states, “Children who eat fast food at least three times a week are at increased risk of asthma and rhinitis, which involves having a congested nose.” Fast food can also trigger digestive problems in your body. This is because the food is usually deep fried. This oil soaked food gets deposited on the walls of the stomach lining thus increasing acid production. It’s been associated with colorectal cancer and poor oxygen transport in babies. A study back in 2011 showed that people who eat a lot of processed meat have a higher likelihood of heart disease. Propylene glycol absorbs water, and is sometimes used as a commercial lubricant. It is the main ingredient in antifreeze and deodorant sticks. It's also used in fast food as a solvent to make spices, as well as food colourings and flavourings and can be found in Subway’s breakfast sandwiches and other fast food items.
