1. Mrs. Jones was fainted due to the sudden fall of blood pressure. This condition is known as orthostatic hypotension, which is often find in patients who had prolonged bed rest after a surgery or any other procedures. When patient gets up after a prolonged bed rest, sudden blood pressure drop leads to fainting. In the above clinical scenario, patient had a systolic blood pressure drop of more than 20 mmHG and a diastolic blood pressure drop of 5 mmHg, clearly indicated the occurrence of orthostatic hypotension. Many hip surgery patients demonstrate orthostatic hypotension and in Mrs Jones case, the staph infection further delayed the mobilization and gait training, which further increased the risk of orthostatic hypotension. 2. This type of fainting is known as orthostatic hypotension and this is a cardiac type.
Patient had no other significant medical history that can contribute to the sudden fainting. When physical therapist made the patient stand, there was a sudden positional change happened after a prolonged bed rest, from supine to erect position. This position change resulted in sudden blood pressure drop leading patient to faint. This could have been avoided if the patient was given more time to adjust to the position change by allowing patient to sit for few minutes before slowly make her standup so that sudden blood pressure fluctuation could have been avoided.
3. Asthma patients must be advised to hydrate all the time. Whenever there is an exacerbation of asthma, there will be plenty of mucus production in the airways of the patient which will lead to further narrowing of airways. Proper hydration will prevent mucus to form plugs in the airways which will help to stop further narrowing of the
