Throughout the years, The US government did more good than harm, they did the most for themselves. They ultimately failed to protect the US citizens. One incident, similar to the sinking of Lusitania, was the deadly Japanese kamikaze attack on the pearl harbor. In the days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, citizens were not a part of the war happening in Europe and were sweeping the country in the final days of the Great Depression. But when the Japanese kamikazes crashed into the Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, all of that changed. This left the citizens of the united states shocked, one person that it did not shock was Franklin D Roosevelt. They invade smaller countries and give innocent people unfair punishments for benefits which will only help the US government. One of the unfair punishment was towards Panama. The United States wanted to gain and control the Panama Canal. Omar Torrijos was thinking otherwise. Torrijos refused to share the Panama canal. He stood up against Ronald Reagan and rejected the offer. It is a good way to make money as there are tolls enforced. The US government looked at the Canal as pure profit and did anything they can to gain control over it. Reagan claimed regarding the canal: "We built it, we paid for it, it's ours, and we should tell Torrijos and company that we are going to keep it."( Perkins 14). More Recently, former Hitman John Perkins states in his book “Confessions of An Economic Hit Man” that “Omar Torrijos, president of Panama. Both had just died in fiery crashes. Their deaths were not accidental. They were assassinated because they opposed that fraternity of corporate, government, and banking heads whose goal is a global empire.
