I drove home crying because I knew I couldn’t afford the expense of a comprehensive allergy test. I strived to find a “DIY” solution. To no avail, I was back three months later, suffering, and embarrassed to admit why I never returned. That is the point Joy sprang into action far beyond her required duty. She questioned me in detail and researched all of my face products, telling me about potential allergens and offering alternatives. After spending more than her allotted time with me, I left crying in relief, regretting how I waited so long to return and admit my financial strain. Joy’s personalized care helped heal my self-esteem. She comforted me and readjusted her approach when I could not do her first recommendation. She is my ‘gold standard’, and I’m dedicated to emulating her compassionate approach as a clinician. Having experience in pivoting based on patient needs will benefit me as a PA as they also have a wide scope of duties. I enjoy shifting on a dime, and it is my passion to enact the best treatment plan based on a patient’s current needs. I also understand the importance of advising patients on preventative care. Reviewing hundreds of X-Rays with patients and parents has made me passionate about how to avoid future cavities and gum recession through proper brushing and diet. I know PAs can have a similar role in guiding patients on how to use medical devices properly and enacting healthy lifestyle changes. Ultimately, our goal as healthcare workers is to prevent future visits by delivering proper treatment and education. Physician assistants need to work swiftly and effectively during unexpected events, and I was called to action during my work as a teaching assistant in a freshman chemistry lab. Part of my training was learning emergency measures, but understanding procedures is different from acting in
