Peru is a South American country that is located on the far western side of the continent of South America. It is also surrounded by all of South America’s biggest and more popular countries like Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil (being the largest, geographically). One of the facts I found that was interesting was that Peru is the 6th largest producer of gold in the entire world but when I looked up its rank in the top richest countries in the world, it was only listed at number 91 with the USA at number 10, also, while Chile, Brazil, and Columbia were all listed above it as well, so clearly their gold production isn’t doing anything too great for their economy. There are also 1,816 different species of birds, 3,500 species of orchids, and 3,532 species of butterflies all found in Peru. Peru is also is the origin of potatoes, tomatoes and avocados, surprisingly. Being that the potato is originally from Peru, there are also over 3,000 different varieties potatoes found in Peru which is mind boggling in itself. When I looked up how many potatoes there were in the world, I found out that U.S. approves of and distributes only a little over 100 varieties of potatoes each and every day so I can only wonder how many of these 3,000+ varieties are even eatable.
