Dear President Biden, I'm Addisen Freeburn, a 7th grader from Saline Middle School, and the topic I am writing to you about is police brutality. Did you know that in the U.S. during a given year, an estimated 1 million civilians experience police threats or use of force, resulting in an estimated 75,000 injuries requiring hospital treatment and 600-1000 deaths? This is all due to police brutality. Police brutality is the excessive and unwarranted use of force by law enforcement against an individual or a group. It's happening all across the US. Police brutality is a very important issue because police are mainly targeting people of color, it's lowering people's trust in the police, and there has been a recent rise in deaths caused by police.
