“We need to keep making our streets safer and our criminal justice system fairer, our homeland more secure, our world more peaceful and sustainable for the next generation.” This quote by Barack Obama explains how we need to keep improving our law enforcement and come together as one nation. Police officers protect lives and property. Detectives and criminal investigators, who are sometimes called agents or special agents, gather facts and collect evidence of possible crimes. Police and detective work can be physically demanding, stressful and dangerous. Pursuing a career in criminal justice is an ideal career for someone who wants to benefit society, work outdoors, and make a decent living. Working in the criminal justice field will allow someone to benefit their community and society. No matter what police officers will respond to calls whether they are emergency or not, but when they are not on a call or at the station they are patrolling their assigned areas with their partner at all times. When the officers respond to a 911 call they are usually outside investigating and finding all the evidence and clues on the scene. If they get there and the criminal is still there they can arrest them, but if they are gone once they get there they will have to use any evidence they can get to find out where the person is or where they are going. When someone thinks of a police officer they probably think of the kind on TV that are heroes all the time, but that’s not always the case. Although some officers and detectives work more in the office which doesn’t require them to do any type of special work, in large departments, there are some officers that work in special units such as horseback, motorcycle, K9 specialty, special weapons, and surveillance
