Any student going through the transition from high school to college does not know what to expect as they take the next step in their academic career. For many students that found high school not challenging and did not find the need to study, will be shocked because college classes are taught with more detail and the emphasis of studying the textbook for any given class. This type of student, not familiar with the best study strategies, will find that just looking over notes and listening to the lectures does not equal to the finest grade possible. This can apply to Biology and Physiology classes, which might require students to study more thoroughly. Study skills such as practice test taking, setting up a more realistic schedule for studying, and improving general test taking skills are excellent tools for students looking to enhance their studying for Biology and Physiology and other classes as well. Though it is necessary, test are not usually viewed in a good light among students. However, research has shown that practice test taking is one of the more efficient ways to study and learn. Studying can be similar to sports in the sense that a professional athlete cannot be an all-time great without training for years. Practice test taking lets students apply what they had retained; every practice test the student completes will be very beneficial for them and will most likely lead to very high grades on tests. Most textbooks have resources that a student could use, an example being a student companion website where they have flashcards and other ways to test oneself on the knowledge that they retained.
