At that time, my father suffered tremendously from high blood pressure and heart problems. I took on the role to ensure that his medications were taken appropriately and at the right time. I also aided my grandparents by helping them stay on track with their medication therapy by making sure that they are taking the right medications and the correct dosage. English is not my family’s first language. With language barriers being a contributor to medication error I wanted to be my family’s liaison. With my father having to take medication for his heart condition, I was able to see first-hand the impact it had on his life. I am now on the pursuit to build on to that knowledge and am anxious to become an immediate contributor in the field of pharmacy. Through observation and volunteering experience, I have learned that healthcare professionals are devoted and dedicated to helping and improving their patient’s quality of life. My volunteering experience allowed me to gain new skill sets that will help me further my career goal. I absorbed knowledge from the pharmacists as well as the technicians. From my experience, I have learned that communication between pharmacists is very important. I also saw how important teamwork is especially when pharmacists are working with children. When working with children and critical patients a pharmacist must verify with at least one other pharmacist to make sure everything is correct. I carried out numerous responsibilities such as pulling large IV’s to be distributed throughout the hospital, shelving drugs that were ordered, and going around each bin to discard opened and expired meds. I learned the difference between a generic drug and a name-brand drug, and how the same generic drug that is made by different manufacturer look different but contains the same dosage. I also had the opportunity to fill patients’ prescriptions by locating the medications needed and checking if it is the right dosage for the pharmacists to check before
