The most important part of a job description is that it is accurate, and it is a realistic depiction of what an average day consists of. My plan for developing a formal job description would be to make a list of everything that a dry cleaner does. This would be the next step or promotion for a general laborer. After completing the list of what the dry cleaner does there should be a tally by each task that quantifies how many times per shift the dry cleaner does each function. A proper job description would list everything that is done multiple times consistently each day and make that the focal point of a job listing. This accomplishes a few things. The pay rate should be included in the job description also. Many people think of a job description as simply being a description of what skills are necessary. That is an important part of the job description , but it has a limited affect. Many people read a job description's first few lines and immediately skip to the end to see if they are qualified. A proper job description will be very brief and realistic listing realistic job requirements, starting pay, and the minimum experience required. Pay is a big part of a job description because if someone is expecting to make twenty dollars per hour immediately they know not to apply and to move on to another job. A lot of job turnover has to do with unrealistic job descriptions such as whenever Tennessee Department of Corrections advertises a family setting where everyone has each other's backs, and the company has great compensation.
