Gasoline is an essence commodity across the global. Worldwide, over 400 thousand barrels of gasoline are consumed daily. The top countries with the highest use are United States, Japan, Canada, and Mexico. The crude oil is transported to refineries to extract the gasoline, then it is stored until it is ready to be delivered to gas stations by tanker trucks. Consumers can buy this product at the gas stations.
Countries located in North America and Europe are the highest consumers of gasoline. Periphery and semi- periphery countries usually have a higher rate of consumption because gasoline is primarily used for transportation in these countries. Gasoline is used by people who own cars, motorcycles, trucks, and boats as a way of transportation.

Then, it is delivered to gas stations by tanker trucks. If needed to be transported to the United States territories or Hawaii, it is transported in ships. The gasoline can be transported by the refinery directly or by independent business that buy the gasoline from the retailers.
Most of the U.S. states have refineries, but most of them are concentrated in Texas, Louisiana and California. Therefore, with so many refineries it is very easy to transport gasoline across the country. The route the gasoline takes to get to particular city or county depends on where the closest refineries are located. However, the federal, state, and local government taxes are added toward the prices of gasoline which ultimately affect the final price.
Owners of crude oil is a big concern in many countries because this resource is controlled by an elite group or government entity that do not necessarily benefiting the population. Countries in the middle east and parts of Africa are an example on how only a small group are wealth due to crude oil. Moreover, gasoline is a major contributor of air pollution because of gases it emits to the air when gasoline is used by vehicles. As a result, gasoline can produce carbon dioxide which leads to the greenhouse gas effect.
