He got a holy name from Elijah Muhammad, the Nation of Islam leader. His famous name, Muhammad Ali, was bestowed on March 6, 1964. You guys all know her as the first African American girl to attend an all white school. Her name is Ruby Bridges. At the age of six, Ruby had something to do with the cause of the Civil Rights Movement. It was November of 1960 when she became the first African-American to integrate an all-white school. Ruby was one of the six black kids to pass an exam to show that blacks could compete with whites academically. Ruby and her mother had to be escorted by four federal marshalls every day because of the chaos going on at the school. Even though she never missed a day of school that year, she was in class by herself. She also had to eat lunch by herself and play by herself every day. Bridges established the Ruby Bridges Foundation in 1999 to promote tolerance and reduce damage through education.
