Salvador Dali’s La Presistencia De La Memoria, known to the English-speaking world as Persistence of Memory, painted in 1931. Dali’s piece was created during the surrealism movement, which Dali was one of the leaders of. The surrealism movement was a 20th-century movement to release the creativity of the unconscious mind. This intuition, welling up out of his unconsciousness as well as being formulated in consciousness, is what Dali pictured in The Persistence of Memory (Zlatic). The piece contains a light blue skyline, which fades downward from light blue to a golden yellow. Under the skyline is a body of water. In front of this platform there is another lonely pebble. A tree that has appears to be on the verge of death, is in front of it, with only a single branch left. A melted silver pocket watch lays on the single branch only showing numbers three through nine. Only one hand is shown laying on the six. The tree is located on top of a light brown desk-type object. The object takes up the whole bottom left corner of the painting. There are two more pocket watches located on the object. One is gold and melted, hanging off the object The hands on the watch are laying on 6:55. Also, on the watch is a fly near the one which cast a shadow that almost looks like a human instead of a fly. The other watch is bronze and significantly smaller than the other watches. The watch is covered in ants. Unlike the other clocks, this one is shut, and the only clock thats not deformed. The ground is a dark brown almost looks like sand. On it is a figure on its right side with a silver melted pocket watch lying on top of it. The white figure resembles a human with large dramatic eye lashes. It’s nose is flared and has a brown object inside the right nostril. The figure has no other human characteristics.
